Lonavala was established as hill station during British era but the twin fort of Rajmachi have guarded the area for over 2500 years. The forts look over Borghat. One side of the fort can guard Pavna River valley which had forts like Tunga Tikona, Lohagad etc. and other side would overlook at the forts of Peth, Dhak, Gorakhgad, Siddhagad etc. It is apparent that this fort must have been an important military station. The twin citadels are known as Shrivardhan and Manaranjan.

The Kondane caves is a group of caves belonging to Buddhist sect. Apart from quick access from Kondane village near Karjat, one can trek towards Rajmachi. The main caves are Chaitya, Viahara, Bhojan Mandap along with few damaged ones and a water cistern. The rains have played major role in destruction of the caves.
