There is a temple of Devi known as Janani Devi after whom the mountain is named as well. Varandha Ghat is an ancient trade route which is still in use. The fort may have been established to guard Varandha Ghat. The base village is Durgadi. There aren’t many signs of history on the mountain top apart from ruins of a house and some water cisterns. One can see Kavalya, Raigad, Pratapgad, Rajgad and Torana from the mountain top. The route passes through dense forest.
