Mahuli Fort, located near Asangaon in Thane district, is the highest point of the region at an elevation of about 2,815 feet. Known for its scenic beauty and historical significance, the fort once served as a strategic watchtower for the Mughals and Marathas. The trek is considered moderate in difficulty, making it suitable for both beginners with some fitness and experienced trekkers. The trail passes through dense forest, rocky patches, and ancient fort ruins, offering panoramic views of surrounding hills and valleys. From Pune, Mahuli is approximately 230 km away, taking around 5 to 6 hours by road. The trek itself usually takes 3 to 4 hours to ascend and about 2 to 3 hours to descend, depending on the group’s pace. Post-monsoon is the best season to visit, as the landscape remains lush and misty, making Mahuli an excellent weekend trekking destination from Pune.
