Badami Heritage Tour

` Badami Heritage Tour
Badami which was formerly known as Vatapi was the capital of Chakukyas. It is world famous for cave temples. The forts and the Bhuthnath temple complex on banks of Agastya Lake is another beautiful site. Towns like Aihole and Pattadkal nearby Badami are also rich with heritage.

Aihole has 19 monuments out of which Ladkhan temple and Durga temple are classic examples of Chalukyan architecture. The Durga temple has various idols from Indian mythology like Mahishasur and Varah. Pattadakal is about 22 kms away from Badami and has a several temples and shrines. There are Kannada inscriptions here datea back to 8th century.

Badami region was inhabited even during pre historic times and megalithic dolmens are evidences of same. The Puranas also have description about Vatapi and Agastya tirtha.
